Charges are filed against a 41-year-old man involved in a deadly jet ski accident on Strawberry Lake in June.
Dean Bartsch faces a misdemeanor charge of Prohibited Operation of a Personal Water Craft.
On June 9th, Bartsch was driving a jet ski on Strawberry Lake in McLean County.
When he fell off, the jet ski continued to run and struck an inner tube killing a 10-year-old girl, and seriously injuring a second 10-year old girl.
The 2003 Kawasaki jet ski was equipped with a kill switch, which is activated when a lanyard is pulled.
Court documents say Bartsch told investigators after the accident that he had the lanyard in his hand when he fell off.
Testing done to the jet ski after the accident showed that the engine should have been killed if the lanyard was attached to Bartsch.
Bartsch will have his first court appearance in September on the charges.
There has been an outpouring of support for the two families of the young girls involved in the accident.
More than $87,000 has been raised for the family of 10-year-old Haley Sundsbak who died in the jet ski accident.
More than $53,000 has been raised for the family of 10-year-old Abby Mikkelson who was seriously injured.
