After the safe return of a missing 2-year old New Salem boy on Thursday, police are urging you to download the CodeRed App.
Authorities say the app is to thank for the quick discovery of the missing boy, who had wandered away from his home. A neighbor, who had the app, said when she saw the alert she looked out the window and saw the boy. Morton County Sheriff, Kyle Kirchmeier, says the CodeRed App played a huge role in finding the child.
"You know I can't say how long it would take otherwise you know. But obviously this speeds up the whole process of what we are doing instead of going door to door with law enforcement or those types of individuals you now have everybody notified of what is going on and this is a case where it worked out very well," says Kirchmeier.
Morton County says they don't just use the app for missing person reports and emergency cases, but also for severe weather warnings and hazardous material releases.
