For the first time in six years, UMary's football team will play a Thursday night home game.
The game won't have an easy opponent. Coming to town is Northern Sun preseason favorite MSU-Mankato. Last season, these teams didn't play.
KX Sports asked Coach Josh Kotelnicki if it was an advantage to play Mankatoo in the first game of the season because the team has extra time to prepare.
"I don't know if you can call it an advantage or a disadvantage," Kotelnicki said. "Whoever is on the schedule is who we are going to play. Sometimes you play the team that's top ranked in the conference and sometimes you play the team that's the lowest ranked team in the conference."
UMary's home opener is Aug. 31 at the community bowl at 6 p.m.
