Over the weekend, the University of Mary Women's Cross Country team brought home their first Northern Sun Conference Title, but say it's just the beginning.

(Dennis Newell, Head Coach) "Obviously, it felt good to get that first NCAA era cross county title. I told the women on the team it feels like a monkey is off our back."

The highlight of last year was Lexi Zeis winning an individual national championship, but they have more team-oriented goals this year.

(Lexi Zeis, Junior Runner) "Knowing the team is right there behind me, it's the fact that everyone works hard at practice.

(Dennis Newell, Head Coach) "We know when we line up in practice or at meets, we're doing it for each other. There's no selfishness about this. I'm less concerned about if Lexi wins a race or if Ida wins a race as I am if this team wins."

Ida Narbuvoll has been a key to the team's success this year, transferring from overseas. She couldn't speak English, but she could run.

(Dennis Newell, Head Coach) "Anytime you add someone like Ida in the mix, a transfer of that caliber, it obviously brings the whole level of your team up."

(Ida Narbuvoll, Sophomore) "It's awesome. It's really awesome. The team here is great, and compared to other teams, we do so many things together. We run together every day and we know each other. We know the effort everyone is putting in."

But it's not just running that brings this team together.

(Lexi Zeis, Junior Runner) "We're a pretty funny team. We're with each other all the time, not just at practice. We're always eating breakfast, lunch, dinner together, hanging out at night. We ave classes together. We sit by each other. Kind of like our little family away from our own family."

And as a family, they share a common goal of a regional championship and to place in the top four at nationals in November.

(Lexi Zeis, Junior Runner) "We want to do this so bad for our own school and for ourselves too because we've been working so hard at this. It's just the feeling of knowing we can do this. It's in our reach."

(Dennis Newell, Head Coach) "We're doing it for our community. We're doing for our university. We're doing it for each other and these are the moments we're going to remember the rest of our lives. These are the experiences we're going to remember 23-35 years from now."

(Ida Narbuvoll, Sophomore) "Just go out and kill it again."
