It's called the greatest show on dirt and it made it's annual stop off in Minot tonight as the Gerdau Magic City Showdown sprint car races took place at the Nodak Speedway. The event draws the top drivers from around the country and of course

the favorite is the hometown hero Donny Schatz who grew up in Minot and not only is the reigning champion but has won 7 World of Outlaws titles. Schatz is celebrating his 20th year of racing and says being back in his hometown is always one of the highlights of the season.

<<Donny Schatz, World Of Outlaws:Anytime you get a chance to get back here where I was born and raised you get that feeling in your gut where it all started and you got to go to school, all your friends growing up and pretty bitter sweet, the best part of it is you get to be here with one of the greatest racing series in the world the unfortunate part is tomorrow, tomorrow it's all over. There's all this hype tonight all the excitement, it's all here and then it's all over after tonight and it's on to the next race so it's part of life racing with the World of Outlaws so gonna enjoy it to the best we can tonight and try to make the best of it and hopefully we can be victorious.>>

Schatz is the World of Outlaws current points leader and enters tonight action on a 3 race win streak. Schatz also has racked up 222 feature wins which puts him 3rd on the all-time win list. And although the allure of moving to NASCAR is there for most drivers, Schatz says it's on the dirt track where he'll finish his career.

<<Schatz:I focused so hard at a young age to be right here that I overlooked all them other things, the NASCAR, the pavement racing, all those things it's because I wanted to be here but you gotta follow your heart and my heart's always been here. When those opportunities came for all that other stuff it was kind of like no I'm not interested and at the point in my life I love what I do, I have no interest in making a career change to do anything but dirt racing and that's the way I'm gonna go out is dirt racing.>>
