Tips from teachers for the first day of school

Minot, ND - There are 7,651 of students enrolled in Minot Public Schools that will be putting on their back packs and hopefully some big smiles today as they walk into their first day of school.

The first day and even the first week can be a bit crazy getting back into the swing of things.

That's why KX News spoke with staff at Washington Elementary, who gave some words of advice and encouragement to students and parents.

Instructional coach Melessa Bosch said, "Put trust in the teacher, that she or he will do their best to love their children and take care of them and that they have the best interest of their children at heart. And to know that there might be some changes from when they were growing up but change is good even though sometimes it might be hard."

"Have consistent bed times would be great," Nicole Chase, a first grade teacher said.

"And communicate with your teacher. Teachers want to know the problem areas so we can help families along the way."

Fifth grade teacher Ashton Schmidt said, "They motivate us as much as we love to motivate them as well. Remember that we're all here to learn and work on this growing path together.

There's a total of 18 Minot Public Schools starting school on Thursday.

Good luck to all students, staff, and parents!
