Minot, ND - As professional players take on the World Series, Minot is also working towards their very own baseball team.
The Expedition League will debut this coming Summer.
It's a collegiate wood bat baseball league throughout the Great Plains region.
The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs will play 64 games against eight teams next summer - 32 will be at home.
There's quite a bit of work going on at what will be their home turf, Corbett Field, as the park district is working on improvements.
The team's assistant general manager said that the organization is separately working on a special ball park menu, a party deck, a VIP area and different season-ticket packages.
There hasn't been a higher-level baseball team here in Minot since the early 2000s and there's a lot of excitement surrounding the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs.
"It's one extra thing for people to do in Minot, which we're always happy to be able to find other things and options for people to have some entertainment in the summer time," Minot Park District Executive Director Ron Merritt said.
The Sabre Dogs' Assistant General Manager Savannah Young said, "Everyone says they're starving for baseball here, so that's pretty much what brought us here. We are excited to bring baseball back to the city, back to the town and be a part of the community and hopefully bring the whole community together."
Dickinson is among the eight teams that will play this season, in addition to three teams in South Dakota, two in Nebraska and one in Wyoming.
Recruitment is currently in the works as the league scouts collegiate players from all levels across the country.
According to the Expedition League's website, the league is hoping to ultimately grow to around 20 teams in the next five years.
