One city is working to remove their current pit bull ban

One city is one step closer to repealing their pit bull ban.

Minot's animal ordinance committee would like to replace their ban with a dangerous animal ordinance.

Meaning the city will no longer punish owners for owning a specific breed of dog, like a pit bull.
Instead it will create a list of animals considered dangerous due to witnessed bad behavior.

"The city doesn't have the proper tools to clearly identify correctly which animal is which and so as a result they would like to see us address that in a way that is a little more comprehensive in looking at all dogs have the potential of possibly biting and being dangerous and being vicious and being a nuisance," said city alderman Shannon Straight.

The city council will consider the new proposal next month.
