N.D. Veteran Honored By France

Minot, ND - A North Dakota veteran of World War Two was given the French Legion of Honor Medal today.

96-year-old Lynn Aas was pinned with the medal by the Consul General of France in a ceremony at Minot's Auditorium.

Aas fought in the Battle of the Bulge and exhibited extraordinary bravery in the liberation of France.

The Consul General said the award is rare - and that Aas was a worthy recipient.
He pinned it onto the combat uniform Aas wore during the war.

(Lynn Aas, French Legion of Honor Recipient) "It is truly humbling to know that you have awarded this to me and that you people recognize what this means to all of us."
(Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, (D) ND) "You helped us build a great country and are deserving of this award. Thank you so much Lynn." (clapping)

Aas served in the 17th Airborne Division in World War Two and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
