Escape the cold and explore at the Magic City Discovery Center

Minot, ND - The holiday season comes with colder temperatures - and it's easy to find yourself with a case of cabin fever.

Activities for kids during the winter months aren't as available as they are during the summer when playing outside is an option.

But there are a few things in the area you can take your kids to.

Minot is home to a lot of people, places and things.

But for a long time, a children's museum wasn't one of them.

That was until the Magic City Discovery Center came along.

"There's no boundaries," parent Allison Auch said.

"There's not a lot of rules and the kids can just run free with their imagination."

Because it's shared with the Dakota Territory Air Museum, the discovery center is open November through March, the perfect time of year to escape from winter weather.

Daycare provider, Lizette Duran said, "Children don't get to explore, they don't have too many options here in town to get to explore and build and learn and just interact with other kids. So it's really important, you know, to have that."

For only four dollars a person, kids and parents can play all day.

"Their imaginations just flourish up here. Anyone from four to 11, my four year old absolutely loves building, creating, she loves it. I mean, PVC and cloth who would have thought? My 11 year old loves the car ramp she loves the connects and the legos," Auch said.

While the committee is works to finalize a permanent location, there's still a lot going on at the Magic City Discovery Center.

For example, a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be held tomorrow at 11.

That will include story time, Thanksgiving crafts, and snacks.

The Magic City Discovery Center is open Wednesday through Sunday.
