Castillo Sentenced After Admitting Murder

A Minot man has admitted stabbing and killing his brother and will spend 35 years in prison.
 
26-year-old Adolofo Contreras-Castillo changed his plea to guilty in the case today in North Central District Court.
 
But his guilty plea came after he maintained that he had not intended to kill his brother, although he admits to stabbing him in the back.
 
Speaking through an interpreter, Castillo also complained that his attorney had made it seem like he had no option but to accept the plea deal that was presented today.
 
In the end, he said he was satisfied with his legal representation and agreed to the sentence of 35 years in prison and five years probation.
 
 
Judge Todd Cresap said the murder charge requires that Castillo serve at least 85% of the sentence before being eligible for parole.
