A police officer who confiscated more than 130 pounds of drugs in two routine traffic stops is being awarded for his work.
Officer Al Schmidt received the Department of Transportation's "Beyond Traffic Stop Award".
The D-O-T gives this award to the person it believes has exceptional enforcement and investigation skills.
In 2017, Schmidt did a routine traffic stop and confiscated eleven and half pounds of methamphetamine along with other drugs, handguns, and ammunition.

"It's an honor. It gives you more incentive to keep going out there and knowing that you're making a difference," said Al Schmidt, Berthold Police Chief.
This is the second time officer Schmidt has received this award --- his first time was in 2016.
