It has something for everyone.
That's the slogan for GooseFest, an eight-day hunting festival underway in Kenmare.
But as Tim Olson shows us, today's festivities were all about our region's youngest hunters.
(Tim Olson, KX News) It's a cherished outdoor tradition for many North Dakotans.
But before you head out here, it's not a bad idea to get in some practice reps.
GooseFest is off and running in Kenmare, the self-described snow goose capital of North Dakota.
At today's BB Gun Shoot, it was all about the kids.
(Volunteer) "There ya go!"
(Olson) Kids like 10-year-old Kendra. And 12-year-old Payton - who had cause to celebrate this weekend.
(Payton, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota) "I caught my first duck today."
(Olson) Dennis Heidel has been running the BB Gun Shoot for about twenty-five years. And he says it's more than just fun for kids - it's a gateway to family traditions.
(Dennis Heidel, Organizer of BB Gun Shoot) "My boy was in it twenty-some years ago... Now some of these kids have kids in it."
(Olson) The sharpest shooters in each age group took home prizes.
And while not every shot is a winner...
(Payton) "Dang it!"
(Olson) Heidel says the BB Gun Shoot is a gateway to family traditions.
(Heidel) "They can go out and hunt with their parents and grandparents, learn all about safety, and enjoy the great outdoors."
(Olson) Reporting from GooseFest in Kenmare, Tim Olson, KX News.
GooseFest continues all week in Kenmare - and there is indeed something for everyone.
