Volunteers in Dickinson deliver some home cooking for Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving Dickinson is continuing a holiday tradition of giving that has been going on in the community for more than 30 years.

Volunteers are gathering at Dickinson State University in preparation for their Community Thanksgiving Event.

They are expecting more than 500 people tomorrow at the DSU cafeteria for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, and more than 450 meals will be delivered.

The food for the event was purchased with donations, but the pumpkin pies were baked by local high schoolers.

"I just feel it is really important to tell our community thank you, and we enjoy having them around," said a young volunteer named Gracie, who was helping out with her family.

With more than 200 volunteers donating their time, plenty of meals will be prepared and delivered in time for the holiday.

Last year the event prepared and delivered 900 meals.
