Fundraiser in Dickinson helps families pay for school lunches

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but for a growing boy or girl a healthy school lunch is equally important.

Today the Young Professionals of Dickinson partnered up with the United Way for a fundraiser at Dickinson State University, to help children of low income families pay for school lunches.

The members are asking the community to take ten minutes out of their their day to donate $10 as part of the United Way's Project H.E.R.O.

The funds will be distributed to families in the Dickinson Public School District who are in need for assistance.

"Over a hundred students at the high school alone are affected with this, so there are hundreds of students in our public schools just in Dickinson that are struggling with this issue right now," said Zach Keller, officer for YP Dickinson

This is the first time the 10 for $10 fundraiser has been held by the groups, and their goal is to raise $5,000, which will help fund about 2,000 school lunches.
