Parade of Lights comes back to Dickinson

Dickinson is going to have it's first Parade of Lights in five years, and a group of friends from The Rock are getting involved in a - big way.

"Everybody voted for the Grinch float to be our theme this year," said Tori Barnum, owner of The Rock.

Courtney Burwick, who works at The Rock, said How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of her favorite movies.

"I love that it is How the Grinch Stole Christmas".

Barnum said he is really impressed with how his group's float is coming together for the parade.

"It's a one of a kind. It is going to be one of the better ones in the parade this year".

Barnum and Burwick said that when they heard the Parade of Lights was going to be back on this year, they were eager to participate in it.

"It was important to my employees. When I brought it up to them their eyes lit up," said Barnum.

Burwick said that she has been a fan of the parade since she was little: "I just love seeing the parade and I'm so excited to be part of it this year".

For the parade, Barnum isn't just a participant in it, he is also the organizer.

"I haven't seen the parade of lights since I moved to Dickinson. It seemed like such a neat idea, and the community had such a good vibe when I talked about it, so I wanted to do it," said Barnum.

He said that many of the employees at The Rock have made the transition an easy one for him by donating lights and helping with the float.

The event starts in Downtown Dickinson around 5 p.m. and will conclude at Prairie Hills Mall later that evening.

Barnum said The Parade of Lights will feature 30 floats, and kids will have an opportunity to meet Santa Claus earlier in the day.
