McKenzie County school introduces active shooter drill to parents

Alexander Public School officials and McKenzie County law enforcement introduced ALICE to parents today.

ALICE stands for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, and evacuate.

The drill prepares students for active shooting threats.

Parents were educated on it in the school gym through videos and a Q and A with a local sheriff's deputy .

Parents had some concerns on how it would be introduced to younger kids, but liked the idea of their children taking a proactive approach.

"Scary thought at first, because he's so little. You don't know how they're going to teach him, but I also want him to be prepared, because you just don't know what's going to happen, so I think it's good that they're teaching them this program, and I know that they're doing it age appropriately, so I think I'm ok with it," said Allie Schmidt, who has a preschooler at Alexander.

Deputy Christopher Cloud, of the McKenzie County Sheriffs Department,  said the plan is to hold regular ALICE drills during the school year.
