The cyber verse - nowadays easy to navigate by even toddlers, but what about those a few years older?

Dorothy Krogen is from Tioga and has been a resident at Touchmark center for three years.
She says technology has grown leaps and bounds since she was a child.

"Oh my. There's no comparison. When I was young we didn't even have newspapers," says Krogen.

And there weren't any telephones either she says. Imagine not being able to check your news feed for bad or good news.

This week is Active Aging Week and she's being told it's time to get more active online.

"Maybe keep up with their grandkids who are on the other side of the United States or the other side of the world and know that they can communicate in a short amount of time, and if that doesn't get them excited I don't know what will!" says Amy Miller, Life Enrichment Coordinator at the residence.

Amy Miller put together this week's activities at the center including a screening called Cyber Seniors.

"In the documentary there is a gal who is 88 years old," says Miller.

The woman goes from not knowing how to turn on a computer to winning a little competition that they had making YouTube videos and who got the most likes, which inspired some of Krogen's friends.

"I've never done a YouTube. My big project right now is going through photo albums, discarding pictures, saving some of them. Photoshopping them - putting them on flash drives," says Edith Riplinger from Balta.

Some of the residents have received iPad classes in the past having received iPads for Christmas.

"I got started on computers when I was teaching and we had the little apple," says Riplinger.

I guess apples really do make teaches smile. When I left them they were talking about doing their own YouTube contest, but doing just fine socializing without technology.

That means they mot be quite ready to get the full social media technology experience.

A copy of the Cyber Seniors video can be rented at the Touchmark.
