Thursday's Forecast Update 5/18

Near/Below freezing lows will end with warmer temps and rain chances ahead

From the KX Storm Center:

It is mostly sunny to partly cloudy and a little breezy across the state. Temperatures are still below average and it feels pleasant under the sunshine. Through the next couple of days, expect a few more changes. Tonight will be the second night of chilly trend. There is Frost Advisory that has been issued for most of the state.
Low temps will fall to near/below freezing and will be hazardous to sensitive vegetation. So, if you have a garden, cover it & bring any planters inside. Also, try to be mindful of outdoor pets. If possible, bring them in. If not, make sure they are comfortable and can stay warm.
A frost advisory means that widespread frost is expected and sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.
The good news is that this will be our final night of near/below freezing temps. Expect a gradual warming trend with a few chances for rain through the weekend.

A low pressure system is redeveloping over the Rocky Mountains & the Central Plains. Friday, this low will move East, across the plains. Saturday, it will take a turn toward the Great Lakes region. Essentially, it will be going around us. However, Friday will bring more clouds and the chance for isolated showers. Saturday, scattered rain is possible for South & East, ND. Altogether, not much of our area will get wet and temps will continue to climb (into the 70s) by Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will then dip a bit (just below average 69) for the beginning of the work week with another chance for scattered rain Monday. Winds will become breezy again through the latter half of our 7day Outlook.

Tonight, mostly clear and chilly with another round of patchy AM frost possible & near/below freezing temps. Lows in the low to mid 30s with a NE/East wind 2-12mph and chills in the 20s.

Friday will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy (North) with more clouds South and a few isolated showers. Highs in the 50s & 60s with an East wind 5-15mph G20.

Friday night, not as cool with increasing clouds and rain chances after Midnight. Lows in the 30s & 40s with a SE/North wind 2-12mph. 20% chance of rain.

Saturday, partly to mostly cloudy with scattered rain (South & East) and temps climbing a little more. Highs in the 50s & 60s with a NE wind 5-15mph G20. 30% chance of rain.

Saturday night, mostly cloudy early & clearing with temps near average. Lows in the 30s & 40s with a NW wind 2-12mph.
