The Great American Smokeout

Lung cancer is the nation's leading cause of cancer deaths and has some pretty high numbers here in North Dakota.

In 2014, nearly 500 people were diagnosed with lung cancer.. and as this year comes to a close, the same amount is expected of 2017.
Tomorrow is the Great American Smoke Out-- a nationwide effort to lower smoking statistics.
The day is meant to give smokers an incentive to not buy another pack.

Jordyn Schaefbauer; Tobacco Prevention Specialist with Bismarck Burleigh Public Health: "It's the day that people who smoke can set a date to quit and it's also a day that reminds us to discourage tobacco use among use and also prevent those who have not started smoking to not smoke."

In just 2 weeks after you quit smoking your lung function begins to improve.
