Taxing Times: How to get a break on property taxes

We know these higher taxes will hit homeowners hard.
At KX News we did the research to help you put some of that money back in your pocket, that's one way we're putting North Dakota First.
There are two major breaks for older North Dakotans and people with disabilities.

The disabled veterans property tax credit can cut thousands from the valuation of property, reducing the taxes due.
And the homestead property tax credit helps people 65 and over who meet certain income requirements.

"We are looking at difficult times in property taxes - there are a lot of judisdictions that are going to see a significant increase - if there's any way we can help you get state dollars to pay for some of your property taxes, we want to help people get enrolled in those programs," said Ryan Kamrowski, the Ward County Director of Tax Equalization.

Kamrowski reminds you that you must apply for the credits each year.
You also receive a 5% discount by paying your property tax in full by February 15th.
