Softball: Champions crowned at fastpitch state tournament

The Junior Olympics Fastpitch State Tournament concluded Sunday afternoon, with teams battling for that final win to earn some hardware.

In the 18U division, West Fargo United took on Ballyard, but the game did not last long.

West Fargo put a long offensive rally in the third inning to force the mercy rule to come into effect. West Fargo ended up with a short and convincing 18-3 championship victory.

The 16U championship game was more competitive, with Grand Forks taking on Red River.

Grand Forks jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth thanks to a Taylor Ellingson two-RBI single.

Red River game back a bit to make it a 7-5 game after six complete, but Grand Forks responded with more offense.

Kiera Bohan hit a two-run shot to center to make it 9-5, and her teammates put up five additional runs in the frame. Red River put up three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Grand Forks still earned the win by a score of 14-8.
