According to the Morton County Sheriff's department, more than 83 individuals were arrested for riot activities Saturday morning at a Dakota Access Pipeline construction site.
Around 5:00 a.m. Saturday police received a report that a car was parked on private property in the pipeline right-of-way area. Four protesters had attached themselves to the vehicle. The protesters were removed and arrested.
At around 7:30 a.m. about 300 more protesters walked three miles onto private property near the pipeline west of Highway 1806. During that time, a group of protesters attempted to breach the police line. Morton County officials say pepper spray was then used on the protesters.
83 protesters were arrested there on charges including: assault on a peace officer, reckless endangerment, engaging in a riot, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, and fleeing an officer on foot. Police say two officers were injured during the event.
Authorities closed Highway 1806 at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning during the protest and arrests. It was reopened at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
