A North Dakota teacher wins $100,000 Powerball prize on the first day of school.

Ruth Pederson of Grand Forks won with a quick pick ticket. She says she realized during the first day of school she had yet to check her ticket. She says her great day quickly got better.

"It was the perfect start to the school year!  I couldn’t have asked for a better start, now I need to figure out what I am going to do with the money,” Ruth said.  “I think it’s time for a little remodeling project on the house.”

The Powerball jackpot for the Wednesday, August 31 draw is $154 million.
