National Guard soldiers welcomed home

It was a big welcome home at the Bismarck Airport this afternoon. There was barely a dry eye in sight as National Guard Soldiers return from deployment overseas.

Family and fellow guardsman waited patiently at the Bismarck Airport Thursday afternoon. 6 soldiers returned from a 10-month deployment to Afghanistan.

"It's exciting, I'm kind of nervous," said Domanic Mauch, awaiting his dad's arrival.

Both Domanic and his little brother Rylan made posters for their dad Staff Sergeant Christoper Mauch But none of that seemed to matter when he came walking out of the airport gate.  They didn't want to let go.

Staff Sergeant Mauch's mom, Kathy Mauch said, "I'm overwhelmed. I am just happy as can be that my son is home safe and sound."

This isn't the first deployment for Staff Sergeant Mauch - but the hello is just as sweet the second time around.

"They got so big while I was gone and you know, I missed out on a lot of things," said Staff Sergeant Mauch.

Not anymore. Domanic wants to catch up on lost times.

He said, "I want to see if he wants to roughhouse or play some video games with us."

But one of staff sergeant mauch's kids wasn't there. Alexavier is at school, and he's about to have one big surprise. All he wanted was his dad to be home just in time for his birthday next Friday. And he got his wish.

"I missed you too," said Alexavier.

Overall, 60 Bismarck-based Army National Guard Soldiers are returning home to their families this week.
