A 24-year-old Bismarck man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot a woman in the chest this morning.
Benjamin Miller is held on $250,000 cash bond.
The 36-year-old victim is in critical condition in intensive care with what are described as serious injuries.
Police the woman was dropped off unconscious at a local hospital this morning by three people who immediately drove off.
Two witnesses were identified and they said they heard the shooting but did not see it.
They said Miller used a revolver.
One witness told police Miller said "I can't believe I did that. I shot her."
He was eventually found and taken into custody.
Miller told police the woman shot herself but that he had hidden the gun under a mattress.
Miller faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine if guilty on the charge.
