Local group wants to recall Bismarck mayor

If its approved, the group needs nearly 2,000 signatures to move forward

One local group is looking to recall Mayor Mike Seminary. They're calling themselves Better Leadership for a Better Bismarck.

They tell us they submitted a petition to the Secretary of State's office today. The group maintains that since taking office Mayor Seminary has lead the city down a regressive path.

One of the main complaints is that he pushed ahead on the Event Center expansion. The group says he's shown ineptitude when dealing with Bismarck's finances and that he's shown a lack of communication and disregard for citizens wishes.

"We've spent millions in downtown development. There's a big project going on by the events center right now. It's millions of dollars in tax money. There's all sorts of things that we do every day in this city that are wasteful that is what these people are really concerned about," says Paul Maloney, a representative of the Better Leadership for Better Bismarck.

The Secretary of State's Office has 5-7 business days to approve the wording of the petition.

If its approved, the group needs 1,898 signatures to move forward and then someone would have to run against Mayor Seminary in a recall election.
