Flash mob at Kirkwood Mall

Black Friday shoppers got an unsuspecting surprise early this morning. It all included a little song and dance.

The hustle and bustle of black Friday - everyone wanting to get in on the deals. But for this shopper's holiday, those at Kirkwood mall were in for a treat. Christmas music started to play, and then something happened.

A flash mob.

Stacy Sturm: "Everybody's seen them online before, and you're kind of like, 'that's kind of fun that they put themselves out there and really tried that,'" said organizer Stacy Sturm.

They couldn't think of a time someone has done a flash mob in the Bismarck-Mandan area, so the idea was born. It all got put together fairly quickly.

Another organizer, Melissa Hammond said, "It was all done on Facebook. Social media makes these kinds of things pretty easy. It was very, very hush hush. We reached out to a couple of groups, and they sent 5 or 6 people each."

People of all ages got involved. Sturm choreographed the number, put it online, and everyone practiced at home. This was their first time doing it all together. The thought of doing it on black Friday was a no-brainer for Hammond.

"We thought that everybody's going to be a little bit grumpy. It's a little tense. Everybody's out shopping. So, we thought maybe we could bring just that once of joy to someone for 3 minutes before they go on to the next stop," said Hammond.

And by the looks of the crowd, everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

A few high school dance teams and even some Bismarck Bucks dancers got in on the fun this morning.
