Deer Gun Opener

Bismarck - Today is a day that thousands of people across the state have been anticipating all year...

It's deer gun season opener, and we spoke with the wildlife division chief, Jeb Williams...

Game & Fish gave out 54,500 licenses this year, an increase from last year.
From 2009-2015 license numbers were decreasing because deer numbers were dropping.
He says for the last 2 years, numbers have been on the rise again, which is a positive change for the state.
But, with more hunters in the field, opening weekend tends to be the busiest.
So, it's a time hunting accidents can take place easily if you aren't careful.

"It's just important for everybody to be on the same page. Communicating with each other, and not being in a hurry. You know, there can be those situations out there when you tend to be in a hurry, but just taking those extra steps, and taking a little bit of extra time, making sure everyone is coming home safe at night, is ultimately the most important thing when it comes to deer hunting season," says Jeb Williams, Wildlife Division Chief, ND Game & Fish.

Safety is the most important thing to keep in mind when you're out hunting, so I'll be back in just a little bit with some specific tips on how to hunt safely this year.
