A bill that tried a failed through congress has been reintroduced this session.
The carbon capture improvement act of 2017 aims to provide funding to carbon capture facilities. These facilities take released CO2 and repurpose it for a later use. Senator Heidi Heitkamp explains why this bill's passage is importance to North Dakotans.
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp: "I think because when you look at our economics in North Dakota, and you say the coal industry not only plays a primary sector role, but everyone one of those jobs has corresponding jobs in our community that actually trickle in and grow the economy of our state. And so, just like agriculture, energy is a primary sector in our economy and primary sector jobs are invaluable in growing the economic base of our state."
The bill is currently awaiting approval by the Senate finance committee.
