BISMARCK - This weekend is the 10th annual Applefest. To celebrate ten years of success... the Bismarck Cancer Center has made this year one for the books. Apple bobbing has always been a part of the Applefest, but not like this.
This year organizers took on the Guinness world record.. which has some interesting rules. To break the current record.. hundreds gathered together at Buckstop Junction. The participants had to bob simultaneously until ten apples were bobbed.
Jonathan Affolter was the first one done.
Jonathan Affolter: "I didn't think I was. I looked around and was surprised."
Others who joined in on the fun left more than their heart and soul in those apple buckets.
Keelee Rhoden: "..I thought I lost my contact in there.. and the water was really cold."
But was it worth the bag of apples?
SOT: Keelee Rhoden: "It was, it was, they're really good apples"
Not only does the festival offer lots of family fun.. but the money raised goes towards a great cause.
SOT: Linn Zander: "The funds that we raise from Applefest all go back to the patients at the Bismarck Cancer Center. It goes back towards housing, gas cards, spiritual and emotional therapy, massage therapy. So it all goes towards a really good cause."
Now that the apples have been bobbed, the volunteers will be counting tickets to see if they broke the Guiness world record. If they topped the 597 simultaneous apple bobbers, the final count will be sent off and become the new official record.
Applefest continues Sunday, including the new "Apple of My Eye" pageant.
