50 Train Cars Derail near Williston

Williston, ND - Nearly 50 train cars have derailed near Williston.

Emergency responders have been on the scene for hours after the train derailed on the BNSF tracks just off of 1804 east of Williston.

We talked to the Williston Fire Department. It tells us that no one is injured and no hazardous materials were involved in the derailment. But clean up could take a while.

"The rail traffic's going to be closed for approximately 24 hours or more. The Amtrak has been delayed here in Williston. So what Amtrak told us is that they're going to try to look into busing the passengers from Williston heading east. And obviously, as the day goes on tomorrow, it'll all depend on what happens with the rail traffic coming westbound," Williston FD Battalion Chief Mike Fronimos said.

The fire department, EMS and BNSF crews all responded to the accident.
