Dorrell Wenninger grew up in South Mississippi and has family all over the country. His passion and interest in weather stems from personal experiences while on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina approached the Gulf Coast as a category 5 hurricane. Though losing strength as it made landfall, much of Dorrell's home town and the surrounding community suffered massive damage. It was after this storm that he wanted to learn how and why extreme weather happens so he could warn people when and where it will strike next.
Dorrell earned his broadcast meteorology degree from Mississippi State University. In 2010, he began his career in Alexandria, Louisiana. Previous broadcast television experiences have taken him from the humidity and hurricanes of South Mississippi and Louisiana through the Midwest and to the Dakotas.
When he isn't forecasting or tracking severe weather, Dorrell enjoys golfing, traveling, volunteering and spending time with friends and family. He has a dog named Lily and a hedgehog named Sonic.
